Costco set to open October 2022 in Arninge, North Stockholm

Sweden is getting their first Costco in October 2022!

Costco is an American wholesaler and grocery store. It requires one to purchase a monthly membership card for 500kr as a private person. According to photos of their sign up booth, they will be carrying many American products, including their Kirkland brand products - it isn't clear if they will carry their Kirkland brand alcohol to private customers given Sweden's alcohol laws.

Are you going to get a membership?

I personally might try it out - just to get my hands on some American products that I usually import. However, I never had a Costco card when I lived in the US so I am undecided.

I ended up going yesterday! I got the yearly membership card for me and my boyfriend for 500kr. They had some good items, such as Pita chips, jalapeño hummus, yellow mustard, low fat Hellman's mayo, Chalula hot sauce, frozen waffles, Frank's Red Hot buffalo sauce and tons of American candy.

On the way out, you can buy huge slices of American style pizza for only 30kr! It tasted SO good, although not healthy whatsoever.

Things that are missing:

  1. Mexican food items - I was really hoping for some good tortilla chips, tortillas, and frozen tamales. They only carried their brand (Kirkland) of salsa which I have never had before so didn't buy it this time. They did, however, have a good deal on guacamole that I will get next time I go.
  2. Limited selection of fresh produce and fresh packaged foods, such as meats, deli meats, their fresh artichoke dip, etc.

Overall, they did not have a ton of items to select from that one would be able to get in the US, so I hope they continue to broaden the selection of food items. Have you been yet?
